Custom Fabrication Design

The Cowichan Place gateway sign project stands as a testament to collaborative design excellence and community engagement. Conceptualized by HCMA, the vision for this iconic sign was shaped through close collaboration with key stakeholders, including the Cowichan Tribes First Nations. My involvement in this project began with consultations on the initial designs where I provided guidance on materials, construction limitations, and product longevity. This phase was crucial in setting the foundation for a design that respected both aesthetic aspirations and practical constraints.

To bring the concept to life, I partnered with local metal fabricators, ensuring the structural integrity of the sign while realizing the ambitious floating-like panels. The project demanded specialized powder-coat finishes, which were meticulously sourced based on the client's reference images. The intricate production process involved multiple fabrication techniques and required detailed 2D and 3D CAM files. Successful onsite assembly hinged on precise planning of tolerances and the seamless integration of separate components, culminating in a sign that reflects the ambitions of the concept.
