Custom Fabrication Design
Southlands is a multi-phase urban development, including a market district, housing, open recreational space and a network of trails connecting to the coastline. Working closely with the client and branding agency, this exterior signage family was developed to reflect the project's agricultural but also modern urbanist aesthetics.
A key component in the design and development process was to select appropriate materials that would reflect and tie in to the landscape and agrarian architecture, whilst also being able to withstand the elements of the waterfront. One clear direction on this project was honesty of materials. In-depth research and development went into defining methods to achieve real rusted and chemically blackened steel for stable outdoor use and sourcing local vendors for steel spinnings and specialist metal finishes.
